Solar panels come in three forms; On-Roof Solar System, Roof-Integrated Solar System and Solar Tile System. An On-Roof system is positioning solar panels on top of the roof, sitting proud of the roof tiles. This installation method is predominantly used for retro-fitting solar panels to a roof.

A Roof-Integrated System, uses the same solar panels from an On-Roof system, but instead of sitting on top of the roof tiles, replaces the roof tiles to form a building-integrated solar panel. The panels sit integrated into the roof, sitting flush with the roof tiles. This does distrupt the eye line of the row of tiles.

A solar tile or a solar slate system, is a roof-integrated system, which keeps the horizontal line of the tiles. This gives the impression that the solar tiles are indeed part of the roof strucutre, and helps integrate the two products to increase the aesthetics of the roof.
